Kiri’s motherhood gram first caught our eye with her bold sense of style and striking photos. What we love the most? Kiri’s strong position on breastfeeding in such a natural yet significant way. We had the pleasure of learning more about what the The beautiful mother of two, influencer and positive vibes fashionista, shows us how to mix motherhood with fashion in a melange of little insight into who is Kiri Vasales.
On Kiri’s fondest memories of motherhood
Ah there are so many! But I’ll always cherish those first few weeks after Matisse, my first, was born. It was such a special and beautiful time for me. She changed my life and it was as if who I was before didn’t matter any more. I was her mumma now.
Has your mothering style been influenced by how you were mothered?
Oh absolutely. My mother has been a wonderful influence on me and taught me many things without forcing any particular ways. She always encourages me to follow my instincts. She was actually a midwife when she was younger so having that experience and knowing she knew what she was doing was a wonderful reassurance for me.
What was the most challenging aspect of postpartum recovery for you?
Recovering from a c-section with a toddler at home was tough. Mainly the fact that you can’t lift anything for 6 weeks so always needing someone at home with you to help. I actually lifted too much and around the 5 week mark I became swollen and bruised all around my c-section scar so it was a very crude reminder to take it easy!
What part of mothering do you enjoy best?
I adore watching my girls learn something for the first time. There’s something so special about it, like a lightbulb moment for them and they will forever be that little more independent. Cuddles in the morning are pretty sweet too!
Kiri’s sense of style can be described as
It’s taken years to really feel like I’ve established a “style” because I wear so many different things depending on the occasion! But if I had to narrow it down my favourite way to dress is somewhere between a rockstar and a boho look.
What do you look for when selecting pieces in your wardrobe?
I look for classic staple pieces that won’t date over time, mixed in with a few trend based items to keep the look up to date.
On motherhood and how it has affected coming into womanhood
It has made me a woman! I never really felt strong in my own self before becoming a mother. I was much shyer and never felt like I was quite “enough” but once I became the centre of that little baby’s universe everything quickly came into perspective and I realized just how much I was connected to every other woman out there. And I felt so at home and so confident.
Do you have a mantra/ quote you live by?
Yes!! Although there are a few… there’s no better time than the present, you will only regret the chances you didn’t take, and of course.. YOLO!
What’s next for Bazaar Mumma
I’ve been working on a little swimwear brand this year which I’m so excited about. Its something that I’ve wanted to do for such a long time now and to finally be able to make it a reality is a huge deal for me!
